Texas Compassionate Use Program

In 2015, the Texas Compassionate Use Program (TCUP) was authored by Republicans in both the state House and Senate. It passed out of the Senate 30-1 and out of the House with more than a super majority. Governor Abbott held a signing ceremony to bring this important program into effect. In 2016, TCUP was added to the Texas GOP Platform as Plank 165.

TCUP provides low-THC cannabis oil to registered patients who have a prescription from their physician (plus a secondary physician’s support). This program serves one condition – those with intractable epilepsy, defined as a patient who has tried two FDA approved treatments that have failed to control their seizures. TCUP is designed to only serve Texas residents. Low-THC cannabis oil is a non-psychoactive neuroprotectant that is especially helpful for treating epilepsy.

Medical cannabis is not legal for most Texans. Every Texans should be able to choose a remedy that works for them. You can find out more about the limited cannabis medical program in Texas here.

EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS

The Foundation for an Informed Texas (FIT) extends educational program dedicated to rural Texans to cable television, the first dedicated to education regarding medical cannabis in Texas. The issue of medical cannabis is an important one to many rural Texans whose livelihoods depend on physical labor. Pain and inflammation are symptoms that are effectively treated by medical cannabis. The current medical regiment for these conditions are opioids and over-the-counter medication—both of which present dangerous side effects. Watch our cable ad here -
