Today, the Department of State Health Service (DSHS) held a hearing for public comment regarding implementation of HB 1325, specifically relating to consumable hemp products. DSHS heard from farmers, laboratories, business owners and advocates for consumer protections. Read the comments offered by our Executive Director. Watch the hearing and public comments! The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) will host a public hearing on October 3 in Austin to accept comments about the regulation of consumable hemp products (including CBD), registration and licensing as well testing for retail products. It is important to see sensible consumer protections while being diligent during the regulatory process so DSHS doesn’t create unreasonable restrictions on hemp products. The recently expanded Compassionate Use Act provides additional medical conditions for which low-THC cannabis may be prescribed. On September 11th, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) held a public hearing to define one of the newly added qualifying conditions, “Incurable Neurodegenerative Diseases”. In anticipation of an increase in demand for low-THC cannabis, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will reopen the application process for dispensing organization licenses on October 1, 2019. Applications will be accepted through November 1, 2019. Applicants can find more information HERE. Patients wishing to participate should review this FAQand consult their doctor.
